Family Legacy
Before getting married, William Guillen, Sr. promised Petra he would never take her away from the community she loved. Despite tempting job offers in Dallas and Florida, William kept his promise and never relocated the family from Second Ward. William Guillen, Sr. loved and supported his family tremendously throughout their marriage.
He was supportive of Petra being a homemaker, which allowed her to concentrate on tending to the family and volunteering at the church. William Guillen, Sr. was also an active parishioner, but because of work, he did not spend as much time there as Petra did.
During this time, Petra had met William Guillen, Sr. who also attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and lived in Second Ward. Little did she know God had a different plan for her. At the age of twenty, Petra married William.
Their 61 years of marriage resulted in an extended family consisting of 13 children (10 daughters and 3 sons), 69 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Throughout her married life, Petra remained in the vicinity of the church and maintained a strong presence.
